Went to the Robert Doisneau exhibit in Rome’s Museo del Genio Saturday night. You know Doisneau. He took the most famous kiss photo in history. As part of an assignment with Life magazine on post-war Paris in 1950, he shot two young art students passionately kissing in front of Paris’ iconic Hotel de Ville. The photo is on hundreds of souvenir items in Paris to this day. What I didn’t know is the photo was staged. Well, screw you, Robert Doisneau! Otherwise, the exhibit was fantastic. Doisneau caught the true spirit of post-war France and around the world in 140 photographs. The exhibit continues through July 19.
