Why we train Aikido at 35.5°C (and actually enjoy it)
Yesterday, three of us trained despite the blazing 35°C heat. It sparked the question: Why?
There was no obligation. Cancelling would’ve been easy. But something drew us to step onto the mat anyway. It wasn’t about goals, ranks, achievement or even discipline. It was about finding a moment where everything else fades away, leaving only focus, connection, and the flow of movement.
In tough conditions, the practice feels clearer, sharper, deeper. The body moves differently. The mind quiets. You slip into that state where you stop questioning and just flow. And afterward, there’s a simple, unmistakable satisfaction—partly physical, partly mental, quietly profound.
Maybe we also quietly build resilience, the ability to stay present when conditions aren’t ideal. Maybe each session reveals how much we can actually endure and how good it feels to choose presence over comfort.
If you’re curious how Aikido practice can help you enter and sustain flow states more intentionally, read my detailed post:
