Aminus3 Photography Discover These are lesser nighthawk eggs. The lesser nighthawk lives in the Sonoran Desert. They do not make a nest; they simply lay their rock-colored eggs on the ground. As I approached, I saw two of these birds on the ground near the eggs. Then, one of the birds flew up and away to the left while the other one ran to the right with one wing out, the wing scraping the ground as it ran; it was pretending to be injured. After about 10 feet, it flew into the air. What an amazing way to draw a predator away from the eggs.
