What's the biggest "TV show" in the world? MrBeast.
The chart below shows total hours streamed (not views!) for the videos MrBeast released in 2024 compared to the most-watched shows on Netflix in 2024, globally.
Last year, MrBeast released 22 long form videos with an average video length of 23 minutes which attracted 5.6B views. The average view duration (AVD) was reportedly 42%.
He also released 41 shorts with an average length of 32 seconds which attracted 15.5B views. His retention rate is reportedly over 70%.
Accounting for these completion rates, the chart compares total hours streamed for MrBeast’s “2024 season” with the most-watched seasons on Netflix last year. (This reflects the combination of Netflix's "What We Watched" engagement reports for January-June and July-December 2024.)
With over 300 million subscribers at the end of last year, Netflix is the largest SVOD service globally, so it follows that Bridgerton Season 3 was the biggest SVOD show globally last year. But, if you think of it as a "show," MrBeast was just as big, or bigger.
When you see press reports about Netflix targeting the biggest creators, this is partly why.
