Kids don't need you to fix their friendship problems. They need you to help them feel less alone in them.
When your child comes to you upset about a friend, the instinct to solve it is strong. But most of the time, kids aren't looking for a solution. They're looking for someone who gets it.
Try this: Before you offer advice, say, "That sounds really hard. Tell me more." You might be surprised how much that alone helps!
