The U.S. is proposing free market policies in support of the “trade, not aid” ideal. The UN, on the other hand, cautions against privatization of global aid, adding that the move will ultimately lead to the abandonment of the aid model, at a vulnerable time for developing countries. The U.S. proposal supports a capitalism-centric approach that: “limit[s] regulation, low[ers] taxation, multipl[ies] energy sources, privat[izes] property rights, [honors the] sanctity of contracts, and [empowers] a trusted judiciary.”
