Good news, Y’all ...
My publisher just let me know that Y'all pushed my upcoming book onto Bookshop’s bestseller list this week. WHOOT! WHOOT!
Eight months before release.
The book doesn’t drop until October 6, and it’s already charting. Do you understand how rare that is?
Pre-orders are are currency in publishing. They tell bookstores how many copies to stock. They tell media outlets whether to pay attention. They tell festival organizers who to invite. They tell the publisher how much marketing muscle to put behind a title. They tell the industry whether a book is “safe” or whether it’s a force.
Early pre-sales determine everything: print runs, placement, promotion, tour budgets, ad dollars, review coverage, awards submissions. They shape whether a book quietly arrives… or lands like a cultural event.
And y’all just made noise eight months early. That matters so much to me. Truly.
It means the story is resonating before it even hits shelves and it's happening in a political moment where the MAGATs are trying to erase Black history.
So if you’ve been meaning to pre-order, now is the time. Every early order strengthens the infrastructure around this book and helps ensure it reaches the widest possible audience.
If this work has moved you…If you believe these stories need to live in classrooms, libraries, reading groups, and living rooms…
If you want to help me kick the door open before October even arrives… Pre-order your copy.
Send the link to a friend. Ask your local bookstore to stock it. Forward this to someone who needs it. And, and, AND ... I'll be happy to sign your copy when it arrives in October. Just lemme know.
