The Commitment Hymn

For use with stewardship campaigns, confirmation Sundays, or remembrance of the baptismal covenant. Based on the membership vows in the United Methodist Church's Baptismal Covenant I and III.

Tune: St. George’s Windsor (sung in the style of “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come)

Meter: 7 7 7 7 D

  1. Pray, we now in God’s throne room

Opened like the empty tomb;

Intercede for foe and friend;

On God’s grace, we do depend.

Dedicate the morning hour

To beseech for God’s full pow’r:,

Great in mercy, God forgive

Ev’ry sin, so we might live.

2. Worship God with sacred song

As we join the heav'nly throng!

Let the Spirit move your soul!

With each breath you can extoll

God, who dwells with all people,

Not bound by church or steeple.

Living offerings we become;

Seeking God, we find our home.

3. Serve we now in Jesus’ name;

With good deeds, we will proclaim

The good news to ev’ry race.

Find God’s image in each face!

Care, compassion, and concern,

It’s by serving that we learn

How to practice Christlike love

On the earth as heav'n above.

4. Testify about the Lord!

Offer witness through the Word!

In the fields, the righteous reap,

Shepherding the long lost sheep.

We branch out from God's own Vine,

Bearing fruit at harvest time.

Spirit, come to us again,

Send us forth in Jesus' name.

5. God, we thank You for each gift;

Please receive the thanks we lift.

Here, we lay now at Your feet

Tithe and talent each replete

With a sacrifice of praise

For the bounty of Your ways,

Placing treasure evermore

on Your altar’s lasting store.
