Speak Out Against Abuse in ICE Detention Centers

**Please read to the end of this newsletter for an update on our summer schedule for this Call to Action weekly email.

Hunger Strikes Signal a Human Rights Crisis

This week, all eyes are on Delaney Hall in Newark and every other Detention Center (Concentration camp) in the country as hunger and labor strikes start or continue. Read more here: us.list-manage.com/CeYJ… Detainees are suffering Inhumane conditions, lack of due process and abuse.

Trigger warning (cursing, violence) on this link to video from Delaney Hall on Saturday night us.list-manage.com/vL4G… - ICE and State Police used tear gas, pepper balls, batons and HORSES on peaceful, passionate protestors. America now has another horrible stain on our record and we must speak out.

What can we do?

  • Call Governor Mikie Sherrill's office ASAP using this script from Jessica Craven at Chop Wood, Carry Water: doylestownactionleague.… Call Mike Sherrill’s office at (609) 292- 6000 and ask her to take action to fix the situation at Delaney Hall. It’s important not to yell at the staffers— None of this is their fault. So please be nice! I just said:

“I’m calling as a concerned citizen to ask the governor to help the suffering captives at Delaney Hall as well as the peaceful protestors who’ve been assaulted and abused by ICE and state police. There are so many things she can do: enforce the Immigrant Trust Directive and Executive Order 12, follow through on the Safe Communities Act, secure pro bono legal representation for detainees, and more. Ultimately she needs to get Delaney shut down. Also please ask her to help free the protestors who are still detained. I know she’s been doing her best, but it’s not good enough. She promised to fight for her constituents. She needs to do so.”

  • Go to this link at Hands Off NYC us.list-manage.com/3I_o… for a list of actions to take to help detainees and their families.

  • This is important!!! Use this link at 5 Calls us.list-manage.com/tnYG…to call your senators and representative. We need to flood every congressperson in DC, even if they are not in New Jersey, and demand investigation, oversight and defunding for this illegal and immoral ICE activity. It looks like the Budget Reconciliation Bill, which includes more funding for ICE enforcement, might be voted on this Thursday so CALL NOW!

  • Join a protest at Citizens Bank, one of the major funders of the GEO group, the private prison system that is making money housing immigrants. us.list-manage.com/EfHy… Or, start your own protest at a Citizens Bank near you. us.list-manage.com/KNU_…

  • Follow Status Coup news, an independent news source that is providing on the ground coverage at Delaney Hall. us.list-manage.com/16OP…
