I see the nihilism spreading also. People who I previously knew as kind and "liberal" have become vindictive authoritarians. Denying care to people with COVID is seen as an acceptable, and even desirable, because it rids society of a class of people who do harm.

I know people who are quite excited and happy about this - happier than they have ever been in their young lives. It's seen as a way to usher in a society that lives in harmony with nature, no racism or violence or even meanness, fresh clean air, quiet streets, and, though they can't verbalize it, a society where they can finally have internal peace.
