This is totally unrelated to the thrust of the piece, but I want to correct this misconception:

The Planck length is what you get by playing dimensional analysis with h, c, and G (physical constants of quantum mechanics, light/relativity, and gravity) until you get a length scale. It’s estimated that quantum gravity effects should be noticeable and significant at this scale. That’s it. Planck units are not the resolution limits of reality, the Planck length is not the smallest anything can be, etc.

Don’t get me wrong—it’s very cool that you can form fundamental units out of fundamental constants, and they have some physical meaning. We expect our current theories of physics to start failing at these length scales when quantum gravity starts to dominate. But don’t read too much into them.
