When was the last time the big newspapers published anything about a forest fire that can save a town, i.e., prescribed fire? When was the last time they featured a keystone climate-saving species like beaver, bison, or sea otters on their front pages? When was the last time they featured a conservationist or scientist who spent their life saving a species or ecosystem? If these papers are experiencing a lack of interest in their stories and low enthusiasm for funding their business model, we shouldn’t cry. The old ways are cracking. We should embrace this chaos at the old papers and welcome new ways of reporting on the environment. WaPo’s climate solutions page was devoted to hypothetical, futuristic, rehashed press releases from climate startups. I’m happy to say goodbye to that.

Video by Amanda Royal of a prescribed fire that will one day save my town. This followed extensive thinning of brush and trees. This fire was within a quarter mile of homes.
