Peterson's position on gender pronouns wasn't that he refused to use them, it was he refused to allow the government to mandate how he uses them. There is a very important difference in this distinction. He has repeatedly said he would use the pronouns chosen by an individual in certain circumstances (where it was a reflection of a real 'self' issue) but he would not countenance the government forcing his language. THAT is a breach of our right to free speech.
