From my review of the data, it seems like inequality’s effects are highly local. It makes sense that you wouldn’t see much change on a national level since a poor person living in Texas probably doesn’t have much problem with a rich person in Maine, but it seems to me that if the inequality is very visible (like in many cities) the effects become more apparent.
