THE VIRAL AFTERMATH
The negative side of the viral effect is to somehow sort through the unsubs that inevitably follows, which can feel more depleting than a slow growth curve.
If it’s to any comfort, which I know it isn’t, the unsubs are really doing you a favor to not clutter your space with negative energy AND lowering other more important metrics like open rate (because those who don’t care don’t open….) it’s better they unsubscribe than hang on like fake ghost subscribers. At least on Substack they don’t cost you money, I have a record of deleting tens of thousands of emails through the years because I didn’t want to keep paying to host adresses of people who chose to ghost me for months.
My advice: a fantastic writer so don’t give a f*ck or else it makes the unsubs win
