I have been an historian for fifty years. I've had 19 books published. Real historians write using available information and change their conclusions when new evidence comes to light. I once discovered new data about a 12th-century heretic showing that there was a political reason for trying him. [he wasn't executed; he was also totally mad] I wrote my doctoral advisor saying that the story he had recounted in his book on heresy needed revising. His response, "Great! After thirty years, it needed revising." That's how real historians work. What we too often get is propaganda, ignorance, and fairy tales.
