I'll make a note and find it in my Library (which carries EVERY good - and banned book - or will acquire it from another library, much to my delight. I know I've read a couple of his books before, but not that one. My husband literally YELLS at Luka, fully expecting him to understand him while I'm trying to explain that: 'he's only hearing your TONE which sounds abusive to this thrown-away, abused dog!' I have no idea what language his previous owners spoke - could be ANYTHING in Brooklyn, since we have so many different communities there. Once here when he was so out of control, I kept repeating words I wanted Luka to learn IN English - simple words as if I was teaching a toddler. To my brain that made sense and he slowly caught on which pretty much verified my sense that he'd likely never heard English before - AND why he was so reactive/terrified by the 'rescuers' and his foster family, although he did accept her because she was a kind person who lived alone. Not at ALL 'TMI; since I've done the same: My sister followed my mother's abusive patterns (as did my brother for a long time) but I made the decision very early on that I would/could NEVER become like her. We have MUCH in common. :)
