Growing up in NYC, as the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Jewish immigrants who became garment workers, I’ve been obsessed with the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire for a long time. When my daughter was in high school, she wrote a paper about Frances Perkins and I learned of her connection to the fire and how it motivated her work as a reformer. The words of Rose Schneiderman resonate powerfully today. P.S. March 25th is also my mom’s 91st birthday and we are having dinner tonight. Gloria Steinem was her classmate at Smith College!
