Ridiculing conceptual work as it relates to the brain sciences is painfully ironic. Most work on the human brain is in its infancy, and has comparatively little explanatory depth.
Some of that is just because it is new. Some of it, is because the fields have yet to learn the fundamental lesson that made physics and the other 'hard sciences' so successful: reflecting on whether the questions they are asking, are the right ones
