Something I didn't expect when I started writing about minds and AI was how often the real disagreement turns out to be about what science can and can't explain

Here's my actual view on the hard problem of consciousness: I don't think there is such a problem. Not because experience isn't real, but because I don't think science owes us an explanation of it. Physics never gave us an intuitive explanation of gravity either. We accepted that and moved on. There's no obvious reason that 'experience' as the hard problem seeks to understand it, should be any different

(1) The 'hard problem' assumes science should be able to explain subjective experience (2) That assumption has never been justified. It's a demand we're placing on science, not a discovery about the world (3) Accepting that some things fall outside the scope of scientific explanation is not defeatism. it's intellectual honesty
