Yesterday I got to witness some of the Monarch butterfly migration in the State of Mexico. Such whimsy! such delight! seeing thousands of paper-like wings fluttering from the canopies of the hushed oyamel fir forest, after they’ve travelled 3,000 miles south from North America.
According to pre-Hispanic folklore, Monarchs are believed to bring the souls of ancestors visiting from the afterlife, and the beginning of their migration aligns with the Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations. What a powerful commemoration, found here in nature.
