US foreign aid strategy is moving from destruction to extraction. It is very much on the continuum with actions taken this week in Venezuela, yet perhaps because of the veneer of beneficence about paying for health, PTSD from 2025 that makes anything left in the aid space seem like a good thing, the foreign policy moves being made in sub-Saharan Africa aren’t included in discussions of the present moment. They aren’t military invasions and depositions, but they are coming from the same playbook, and could claim thousands of lives.
