Small clarification. I didn’t quit my legacy media job to pivot to Substack. I was laid off from Meta (a job I really liked), and then I was freelancing at Shopify (I really liked that job too).

I was writing Feed Me for two years before I started making any money from it, while also working in tech. I told myself if I ever started making more money from Substack than my consulting gigs, I’d try it full-time.

That happened in year three.

Now I’ve been writing on here for over five years, doing it full-time for a little over two.
