Let’s go free speech! I’m so heartened by the bipartisan response to the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live and how, due to the widespread support and boycotts, it was brought back on air. When people decide what they are for—not just what they are against—and take a stand together, it is so hopeful.

As my friend Debra recently said, “Wow, living in this world is really a…thing.” She’s right—it’s so much. Who isn’t feeling overwhelmed or disheartened?

I have a lot of ideas about staying hopeful in uncertain times—maybe too many ideas. All of them are hard-won, based on what’s worked for me as a caregiver to my beautiful, one-of-a-kind daughter, who has a rare genetic deletion (in short, she’s missing DNA) and faces ongoing serious medical and behavioral challenges.
