One of my first real substack essays was about this album, released today 40 years ago. I obsessed over it at the time. Played it daily. Listened for each little odd detail to emerge. Tried to write poems inspired by it. I still obsess over it because it is such a distinct album. Not quite pop, or jazz, or rock, or any one thing. It is all of this and more and essentially Talk Talk music. Which is to say very spiritual and very intimate. And recorded in such a way that it sounds 3D. Where I live, spring is an uncertain thing. You have to help it. And this is how i do my part. Because life is what you make it, and this makes life more colo(u)rful.
