Make money doing the work you believe in

How has it been 40 years (next montjh) since So? I remember how much I anticipated it. And how as b-sides trickled out, i wanted to rework it. That is the relationship i have always had with his work: obsession over songs not albums. On So, there are quite a few songs I obsess over. The superlative opener Red Rain and the huge hit Sledgehammer, a Stax pastiche that is funnier and weirder than you may remember. But the best songs are so good they almost tower over all his other work, specifically In Your Eyes, a love song that could be romantic or religious (and was even better in the 9 or so minute single version), and Don’t Give Up, which still brings me to my knees. Mercy Street is nearly the equal of all these songs and that is kind of where I tap out a bit. I want Excellent Birds on here. I want Don’t Break This Rhythm. But so it goes. Where it doesn’t floor me, it gets over on musicality and nostalgia.
