The app for independent voices

I cannot subscribe to 30 or 40 writers at $5 per month each. Andrew Sullivan (love him despite his sometimes hysterical rhetoric) makes way too much money. Heather Cox Richardson (otherwise known as the Biden administration) makes way too much money. Substack must fix the subscription model so we can support many voices. I shouldn’t have to come up with the answer. Edit: My point isn't that things should be free, or that people making millions are the problem. It's that the $5 mandatory minimum and the subscription-only model favor a certain type of Substack. The writer who produces one or two simple articles a month may aspire to having a few hundred paying subscribers at $2 each. The writer who does infrequent pieces requiring extensive research or reporting would benefit from an article-based payment. This is a digital platform intended to give writers an outlet and an opportunity to benefit from their work. It's too rigid.
