Tsirkas would go on to publish two books on Cavafy, in one of which he wrote: “The stoic obsession with duty, when everything points to how unjust the sacrifice is; the white elephant of being able to foresee, powerless, the tragedy arriving; the betrayal that fatally reveals itself at the end of the struggle; these are at the core of [Cavafy’s] poetic thoughts between 1898 and 1903.”
