I wish I had read this article while I was still a K12 teacher.

Barbara Oakley argues that global education is stuck in a 'Constructivist Teaching Fallacy', which is the mistaken belief that we should teach students by letting them discover information on their own.

Research shows this fails beginners, leading to PISA score drops in countries like Finland and New Zealand. Worse, the lack of explicit teaching hurts disadvantaged students the most (as affluent families hire tutors to provide the direct teaching schools won't).

Oakley argues we need 'Cognitive Realism' a teaching paradigm based on how brains actually encode facts, not how we wish they did.
