Some days I sit down to write and the words come out wrong for an hour before they come out right.
I used to think that hour was wasted.
Now I know it's the warm-up my brain needs to find the signal underneath the noise. The bad drafts aren't obstacles to the good one — they're the path to it.
The work before the work counts.
