Media outlets like Al Jazeera use the phrase "US tensions" as the country bombs Caracas, Venezuela, trying to paint the attacks as somehow two-way or provoked. Nope, this is US violence, murder, and imperialism. It is entitlement to steal resources (Venezuela's oil in this case, or Mexico's water and minerals or the DRCs metals) and to control what countries of the Global South do and how. Venezuela for me also represents a time in my life dedicated to building a new way of being and organising society. It isn't its president. It is millions of people who were intellectually imaginative enough to debate and organise worker control, new community and school structures. We turned unused lots into community gardens. I don't care that there were mistakes too - there always are. Emotionally, I'm hurting in a way I struggle to describe to others here, but I'm not surprised.
