Seeing the term “blue dot fever” pop up a lot to talk about the artists that are cancelling their arena/stadium tours. It feels like a direct knock-on effect from the LN/TM monopoly wherein deals are made with little reflection of reality (see: what Patrick Carney said when they were in this position a couple of years ago.)
Another contributing factor is the lack of mid-sized venues. There are about 13 venues in Toronto that have a 1-3k capacity. Then it jumps to two 9k venues. Then it jumps again to about 20k. There’s a casino outside of the city that has a 5k capacity. That’s it. That means you have to at least triple your local audience between these venues, unless you want to perform multiple times at theatres.
