Religion and the Magic Mushroom is making its rounds again, I see.

I absolutely think it’s possible that psilocybin mushrooms are partially responsible for the last stage in our evolution, which was a purely mental change.

However, every time a scientist comes round and wants to talk about this, for a very strange reason, they want to point the Fly Agaric Mushrooms(amanita muscaria). The reasoning is that it’s slightly more common. It is intoxicating. And there are indigenous Siberian tribes that use amanita muscaria in shamanic practice.

Here’s the real problem though. It’s clear that the authors of these studies haven’t tried either mushroom, and don’t even look at psilocybin much before siding on amanita.

Amanita is considered unpleasant by the extreme majority of users. It works as a disassociative, and as a deliriant. Most of the experience cannot be remembered due to the extremely high anticholergenic effects of Amanita.

psilocybin is found in thousands of different species of mushrooms from all over the world. Its effects are rather immediate, coming in under an hour. It is almost universally considered as extremely pleasant. Smiles stay so long your cheeks are sore after.

The psilocybin mushroom is a full spectrum experience. This means the mood boost, accompanied by odd thoughts that lead to laughter. Audio hallucinations common, but clearly not ‘real.’ Visual and textile are the same. Visuals are common, and while seeing a non diegetic visual is wonderful and awesome. But not an every time deal.

Mostly, colors are cool. Music is very pleasant. The experience centers on the mood boost, really. Fractal patterns on eyelids, or large objects of 1 color. You get the idea.

This is much more likely to develop use in a group, or esoteric religious setting. Once the species is discovered, they can be turned into a solid, reliable harvest every few months.

Psilocybin pushes the ideas of Christ. Unity. Love thy neighbor.

The Amanita experience is difficult for users to communicate with one another. Lasts a shorter time and is steeped in confusion.

So, Christ on a cracker? Pretty likely.
