It depends on the group. We have those who feel it would be all better if there were just no taxes for anyone farming, and those who feel if there was an investor ban it would be all better.
The groups against taxes. Most fail to understand that investors are a fairly recent development in farmland buying and that the biggest group of speculators on farmland are the farmers themselves. They want farmland to be transferable tax-free to their kids, that's a common solution proposed which I don't think will actually solve anything.
There's also a decent number who feel my generation hasn't worked hard enough to deserve access to farmland. Which is hilarious to me because that comment usually comes from someone who inherited a large property themselves with very low debt.
I recently proposed that agricultural programs tighten their requirements to promote solutions. Example, requiring younger producers in positions of decision-making, removing access to anyone over 65, and requiring documented exit plans. Most felt very threatened by this and had no alternative suggestions. Especially the 65-age limit, which would remove access to the property tax reduction, that one really got people riled up.
