‘Ancient Avenues’ marks the inception of Iceman Records, a new label from rising star Fonte. Dedicated to the unsung heroes of the noughties, this label aims to archive underrated gems that might otherwise have been lost to time. For this record, Square City has created three unconventional yet enticing tracks, influenced by Detroit house and techno but interpreted in his own way. They boast a uniquely distinctive and otherworldly sound, perfect for murky dance floors in distant realms.

The bubbly opening track, Neurometer, features thick, punchy drums and drowsy chord patterns. These are layered with strange extraterrestrial sounds and playful melodies that paint mesmerising scenes to get lost in. The samples in the track are unusual and similarly weird and wonderful snippets can be heard throughout the EP.

Then we have the disorientating A2, New Trax Attract, with abundant polyrhythmic elements layered on top of distorted drums that come together to create this crazy peak-time anthem. A timeless tune submerged in complex parts, it entices only the bravest selectors willing to risk the rewarding glint in the crowds' eyes.

Lastly, on the flip side is the appropriately named Mystical Floatation Device. This breakbeat track is a sombre collage of aquatic sounds perfect for a warm-up or cool-down. With a strong focus on percussion and sub-bass, this track stands out on the EP and is an ideal B-side for people looking for something less conventional but keeps you grooving nonetheless.
