The investigation into bid rigging in the San Siro case has brought back to the forefront a question that seemed closed: was selling to private entities really the right path?

This story has deeper roots.

In 2023 — when everyone considered the sale of the stadium impossible — I wrote that selling the facility to the clubs was the only viable way to remove it from the cultural constraint that blocked any intervention. It was a contrarian position. Two years later, the deed was signed. And now the post-sale complications reopen that question.
