This week for our Filmmaker Profile, we are highlighting the work and legacy of Italian American director Frank Capra. Immigrating from Sicily to Los Angeles, Capra had an impoverished upbringing, but through his determination and confidence, he soon became one of the top directors of Hollywood. Capra developed a distinctive style that translated into all the different genres he directed. Later given the nickname "Mr.America" Capra approached each of his films with the mission to inspire hope and optimism through underdog stories about ordinary people. Capra is the second most awarded director at the Academy Awards, winning Best Director three times with two of his films (It Happened One Night and You Can't Take It With You) also receiving the Best Picture Oscar. ⭐️
