You may be wondering why I have decided to start posting to substack. Well, here’s my manifesto.
I believe that art market information should not be hoarded. With the spread of knowledge “a rising tide lifts all boats”.
Information hoarding and excessive secrecy results in a dumber art market; one where jealousy and paranoia thrives.
I believe in the efficacy of a “growth mindset”, where one person’s success that is examined and celebrated benefits the market as a whole. Success breeds success. A “poverty mindset”, in contrast, believes that success is a finite resource and that one person’s benefit is another’s loss.
The part of the art market that I operate in is rarely reported upon. There is money to be made reporting on the investment market and big ticket sales. There is money to be made in “how-to” writing for beginners. That mid market for exhibiting artists is an information wasteland. Let’s change that.
