One of the biggest and most productive changes I’ve made in my teaching this year is to include way more review. Review of content from past years, review from last week, last month, etc. Sometimes it means a bit of practice to keep skills sharp, sometimes it’s a quick reteach, sometimes it’s a much longer and more thorough reteach.

There’s this tacit agreement in many math classrooms, including my classrooms in the past: once we move on from this topic, we expect you’ll probably forget it. The goal is to break that agreement, not in a “gotcha” kindof way, but with lots of support and practice.
