I’m reading Sir Nick Gibb’s book Reforming Lessons about education in England. I love how pro-teacher the book is. My favorite quote so far:

“If accountability structures were better designed and more strongly enforced, it was implied, teachers would work harder. I came to realise how misplaced such a diagnosis was. In many of the schools I visited where pupil underachievement was endemic, it was not due to a lack of effort on the teachers' part. Far from it: dedicated teachers were giving everything they had to help their pupils. However, the conditions in which they worked made success impossible: out-of-control behavior, misguided ideas about teaching and curriculum, and school initiatives that required teachers to work hard on all the wrong things.”

Sounds familiar!
