I learned to touch type in a middle-school class with cardboard keyboard covers. I had that class twice a week, and didn’t often use computers outside of it.
Today, lots of kids use computers every day yet they hunt and peck for keys and are stuck typing slowly.
Immersion is not the same as instruction. This goes for lots of skills, digital and otherwise. We’re often better off spending less time doing something, but learning with intention rather than just immersion.
