A paradox of teaching:

Learning is an individual act. It happens inside the mind, and there is no law of learning that requires other humans to be present.

Learning requires effort, and it’s not easy to motivate large numbers of humans to put effort into learning. The best strategy we’ve found is to make learning social, to bring groups of humans together, ask them to learn the same broad ideas, and to make that learning visible to one another.
