Doing some planning to teach vocabulary and it strikes me how many vocab teaching strategies act like there’s no opportunity cost.

Nothing against the Frayer model but it is not a very fast way to teach words.

Something I learned from Sean Morrisey is how many words we can teach if we are efficient. The Frayer model seems to assume there’s one, maybe two words per lesson. Sean’s strategies are great for teaching more words while also leaving more time for everything else.

My favorite: teach a word and its antonym together. One of my day one vocab words is ecstatic. Teach it paired with sullen. Then give a bunch of examples: in this situation, would the person be ecstatic or sullen?
