Hand on heart: if you had to place a bet and you had two options, what would you choose?
Bet A: People will consistently sit down for months or years to learn a foreign language, aka Duolingo.
Bet B: A company will build a real-time translator that works for the masses. Maybe even with in-ear devices. True live translation, so I speak my native language, you hear it in yours, and vice versa.
Which bet fits human nature better?
Not the top 5% or 10% of high performers. The mass market.
For me, it’s obvious. I always bet on human laziness and convenience, not on discipline and performance culture.
I invest in businesses that don’t require people to fundamentally change their behavior. I invest in models that fit how people already are.
