This may be the dumbest thing I’ve seen today on Substack
How long does it take for the US Government to spend $1T? Something like 2 weeks IIRC. There are no more than 2 trillionaires in the world. Possibly just zero depending on how the stock market values their companies. There are fewer than 1000 billionaires. You could punitively tax them all 100% of their wealth and have the US government budget for somewhere between two months and a year (I haven’t done the precise sums and it doesn’t matter because forcing them to sell would depreciate the assets and put it way down at the low end). That’s OK for months one and two. What happens after?
People often struggle to comprehend large numbers. When I demand taxing the super rich, I don't mean the millionaire—I mean the exploitative billionaires & trillionaires. Here's the difference:
•1 million minutes from now is 2028
•1 billion minutes from now is 3928
•1 trillion minutes from now is 1901326
Tax the super rich. Invest in working people. Save our democracy.
