= About using bookmarks =

1.

I typically use two types of bookmarks. One is a blue bookmark, which I use to mark where I've stopped reading. The other is a green bookmark, which I use when I want to excerpt good sentences, notes, or ideas page by page while reading or re-reading. I mainly use these two types of bookmarks to manage my reading progress.

2.

Orange and red bookmarks are assigned to ongoing projects. For example, for paper documents I've consulted for making slides, I'll mark them with a red bookmark as part of a review process, sometimes to be used again later. The difference between orange and red is merely to distinguish between different project tasks; there's no other distinction.

3.

If a book has too many key points and would require too many bookmarks, I'll change my method to inserting an index-like page at the end of the book. I'll start listing page numbers according to the themes of the key points to facilitate future reference and lookup. I also do this when summarizing my regular bullet journal entries. My journal entries are often free-form and not always systematic, but sometimes certain themes emerge. These themes often become material for future contemplation, so I'll give them a temporary heading and allocate them to the back pages of my bullet journal. This is similar to the example in the second photo.

4.

For e-book reading, my habit is to only use blue bookmarks. When I encounter a good sentence, I either screenshot it directly or export it. Because e-books lack the tactile feel of physical books, my memory retention is very low. I can only deepen my impression through repeated reading and citation during the process of browsing my digital notes.

5.

Bookmarks are helpful aids that let you know your progress during the reading process. They prevent us from getting lost while reading. Sometimes, they also serve as a pause, a mark to help you resume from that point when you're tired. After all, books are always patient, waiting for us to pick them up one day.
