What I wrote here is a perfectly cogent response to what you wrote - the conceptual failure you see in colleges is a product of a larger incoherence that is exemplified by school reform principles you've articulated many times.

I don't think, in fact, that you have a coherent answer to the conflict between a reform movement that insists that “every child deserves a world-class education” and the systems of meritocracy which by definition can only reward some. In fairness, almost no one who writes about education has good answers to those questions. But I think you get so ostentatiously annoyed at me because you know that you don't have good answers to basic conceptual questions.

“College doesn't know what it's for” is true. I'm just pointing out that this is only a piece of a much bigger failure to answer, what are we really attempting to do here?
