There is nothing any politics and culture writer could do that would be more valuable for readers than to say, “I will not publish anything that argues that we are at the start of something or the end of something, I will not keep saying that the revolution is here or that The Death of Beloved Institution X is coming, I will not sell all of my work with the premise that immense change is surely upon us, I will have the courage to live in the world as it is.”
