Great article! I'm a (recovering) alcoholic, from a long line of alcoholics. It skipped my dad and found me. However, it didn't leave my dad alone. He was a religious minister who was obsessed with the one true understanding of religion. Ironically, now I'm actually a minister also (I never saw it coming) and I also feel a pull to make sure I'm in the One True Church. It creeps in all the time. I even feel it creeping into my ttrpg hobby. It's insidious and it comes for all of us. Now, I do believe in Ultimate and Objective Truth, but it's dangerous to make oneself the ultimate arbiter of Truth. Really, most of us are doing the best we can. Trying to follow, in our broken way, what the Truth has revealed to us. Thanks for your writing!
