My reason for favouring the traditional Eucharistic lectionary of the Western Church, used now only in the rites of the Book of Common Prayer and Tridentine Latin Mass, is simple: from the fifth to twentieth centuries AD, it formed the minds I most admire, and I want mine formed in the same way.
